This event is promoted by RESALVALOR (Valorization of Residues from the Agri-Food Industry) and
PROVALOR (Value Added Products from Forestry Industry Residues). It is a biannual event previously
held in Foz de Iguazu, Argentina (2013), Concepción, Chile (2015), Barcelona, España (a parallel
event within the 10th World Congress of Chemical Engineering, 2017) and Thunder Bay, Canada
(2019). Now it is proudly announced again as a parallel event within the 11th WCCE. All worldwide
network involved in technical solutions for cascading biomass residues and wastes in the circular
economy is invited to join us.
The overarching theme of ISLCM-2023 is the Circular Bioeconomy and Climate Change.
The Biorefinery concept development is the key to build a society based on renewable biomass
resources. Although there are major challenges in reducing production costs in Biorefineries posing
great opportunities for fundamental science and engineering research, new research may lead to
dramatic shifts from the way we currently conceive and practice biomass production and conversion.
This is a challenge and an opportunity that must be currently considered in order to the transition to a
Bio-based-economy. The International Symposium on Lignocellulosic Materials will provide a
platform to critically review the recent progress, design innovative strategies for future advancements,
and exchange multidisciplinary information and experience acquired at all levels of lignocellulose
research and development from lab, industrial and commercialization scales. ISLCM-2023 aims to
stimulate fruitful discussions on a wide range of topics in all the biomass-related areas including but
not limited to the following subjects: biosynthesis and deconstruction of lignocellulosic biomass,
biopolymers and natural adhesives, thermochemical and biological conversion, new molecules,
composites, advanced and smart eco-friend paper-based materials, wastewater resources recovery,
agrifood wastes processing, process integration, socio-economic impact analysis of products and
processes.
The conference will set the stage to critically analyze biorefining production platforms for building
block chemicals, complex materials, value-added products and underutilized byproducts from
biomass. Opportunities will arise to accelerate scientific discovery and help promote, advance and
disseminate new knowledge in all aspects of Lignocellulosic Biorefineries.
